Why is it important?

Employees are the most critical component of any business. Successfully managing the human resource aspect of business is imperative, even for very small operations. After all, in a service economy, employees are a crucial part of the product being delivered. Their performance, commitment and loyalty to the job are critical and can be boosted through successful HR management.

In this season of COVID-19, properly monitoring the health and safety of your team members can actually be an opportunity to improve employee loyalty and it can be an opportunity to expand your existing customer base.

To help employers think through the pros and cons of testing employees for COVID-19, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued guidance that describes five scenarios in which testing might be effective or appropriate.

In general, employers should be strategic about testing and have a plan for what to do when results are positive, the agency advised in its guidance for testing in non-healthcare workplaces. The CDC recommends that testing is most appropriate in areas where there is moderate to substantial risk of community transmission of COVID-19 and at workplaces where employees are in close contact with each other or the public.
